We are going to talk about Spiritual Gifts.
September 27, 2016 7-9PM FBC Doors open at 630PM
What is a Spiritual Gift?
“A spiritual gift is any ability that is empowered by the Holy Spirit and used in any ministry of the church” -Wayne Grudem, Systematic Theology
My favorite definition of a Spiritual Gift is out of Cadre Ministries:
“Special abilities, a.k.a. super powers that God promises to give (at least one to each of us) to every christian—including you and me.” —Cadre Ministries, I have super powers training
I am excited to take an evening to begin a discussion with you and teach you about what the Bible has to say about Spiritual Gifts, and I would like to invite you to join us on Tuesday September 27, 2016 here at First Baptist Church of Minonk, IL (FBC) from 7-9PM (doors open at 630PM) for an evening where we dive into scripture together and see what God has to say about Spiritual Gifts.
I do have some prep work for the class that I would invite you to jump into. If you don’t have the time to do this, or if you are reading this and realize that the class is soon and want to come but don’t have the time to prep, no worries, please come and join us. The prep work that I am giving will help you think about what the Bible has to say on Spiritual Gifts, and it will give you a chance to take a spiritual gifts survey ahead of time so we can talk about that at the end of the class. (You can certainly do this after the class, but we are going to have a set time to talk about your results in the class)
You can order the Heights Spiritual Gifts Survey by Paul Ford from the link below. It is $3.95 plus shipping. If you are unable to order this, or can’t afford it, please let me know and I will make sure we can get one for you.
Once you have the survey it will ask you to sit down and take the survey—it’s easy, don’t worry. Once you are done, then tally up your scores. From there, you will be asked to make three copies of the “Here’s what I think of you” page (come and use the copier at church for this if you need a copy machine) and you will need to ask 3 people who know you well to fill one of these sheets out for you and get that back to you. The rest of the survey will give you some good reading to think about your results—which we will spend some time talking about in class as well. Pleas bring all of this to the class with you if you are able.
I would like you to take the time to read over some of the Bible passages that we will be discussing this evening and let God saturate your heart and mind ahead of time.
Here they are:
1 Corinthians 12
1 Peter 4
1 Cor 7:7
1 Cor 14: 12, 26
1 Tim 4: 14
2 Tim 1:6
1 Corinthians 11-14 is a broad discussion on the use of Spiritual Gifts in the Church
1 Cor 2: 12-16
Matt 7:16-18/ Matt 12: 33-35
Matt 10: 18-20 (Luke 12:11, Eph 6:19-20)
Pray that God gives you insight into the gift(s) that He has given you, and how He wants you to use them to bless the body, and glorify God—and I am looking forward to hanging out with all y’all.
